At Watermark Stone Wealth Management we have a core value of always placing the client interest first and foremost. When explaining the importance of this belief, I often use the example of the book “Where are all the Customer’s Yachts”.
When he wrote his satirical book about Wall Street in 1940 author Fred Schwed Jr. explained that the title comes from an “ancient story” in which “an out-of-town visitor was being shown the wonders of the New York financial district. When the party arrived at the Battery, one of his guides indicated some handsome ships riding at anchor. He said “Look, those are the bankers’ and brokers’ yachts”. “Where are the customers’ yachts?”, asked the naïve visitor.
Unfortunately, the pointed meaning behind this title is every bit as relevant today as when Mr. Schwed wrote his book 75 years ago. All too often new products, strategic innovations, and tactical devices seem designed to create great benefits for the promoters, salespersons, product manufacturers, advisors, bankers, brokers, etc… basically everyone except the client.
To many investors it seems they are always being offered the “sizzle”, but never the “steak”. At Watermark Stone Wealth Management our clients interests’ always come first. Every product we recommend, every strategy we support, and every tactic we employ, is carefully evaluated with the paramount desire to create benefit for our clients. While some recommendations are more successful than others, all are made with the intention of growing or protecting our clients’ wealth. Your goals are our goals, and we measure our success by your success.

On reflection, I realized that such an approach would take me in the opposite direction from what I had intended when I began my career in this industry, and that I would be turning my back on my belief that all investors should have access to good advice. Instead of taking that path, which is so common in this industry, I instead decided to build a team of like-minded professionals with complementary skills and experience, so that jointly we could provide high levels of service and professionalism to a broad range of clients. I am very proud of the team that we have developed, and of the help our members bring to clients on a continual basis.”
Doug has more than twenty years of experience helping both individual and corporate clients to manage their investments and achieve their financial goals. Doug is licensed as an Investment Advisor, Portfolio Manager, and Life Insurance Agent, and has earned some of the most highly regarded credentials in both the financial planning and investment fields. This enables him to offer his clients a unique and powerful combination of comprehensive financial planning coupled with professional investment management, and to provide the optimal blend of products and services for each client in an objective, unbiased manner. Doug has been a Portfolio Manager since 2000, and demand for his investment advisory expertise has grown dramatically over that period. With this growth, Doug has assembled a team of associates and assistants who can collectively deliver high quality, professional service and expertise to meet client’s needs.
When Robert decided to begin a new career in the financial services field, he brought to the team strong analytical skills and a client-focused approach developed during his tenure in a leadership role with a major Canadian retail corporation. Robert has now been with the Team for more than 12 years, and combines his client-focused approach with his experience as a licensed Investment Advisor and Certified Financial Planner®. Robert works closely with clients of The Watermark Stone Wealth Management Team to develop and implement their wealth management goals and strategies.
Leigh Ann joined The Watermark Stone Wealth Management Team in May 2007, and over the ensuing years has become a highly valued member of our Team. She has built on her previous years of experience in financial services, and in addition to becoming a Licensed Associate Advisor is now generally regarded as our administrative expert and office manager. Leigh Ann is responsible for maintaining superior client service and coordination of office administration and marketing activities, and receives frequent praise from clients, head office staff, and peers.
Amanda became a member of The Watermark Stone Wealth Management Team in 2017, bringing with her several years of valuable experience in the financial services industry. Amanda enjoys working and building relationships with both clients and co-workers, which combined with her ability to deal effectively with administrative and systems matters in a timely and efficient manner makes her an appreciated asset to our Team.
Teresa provides the Team with office management and administrative skills gained during her 17 years with a major Canadian bank, and is responsible for quality control, ensuring that back office functions are executed efficiently and accurately on behalf of the Team’s clients.
